Motor Vehicle Excise Tax Bills

Payment

A person who does not receive a bill is still liable for the excise plus any interest charges accrued (M.G.L. Chapter 60A, Section2). Therefore, it is important to keep the Registry and the post office informed of current name and address changes so that excise bills can be delivered promptly. It is the responsibility of the owner to contact the Tax Collector if he/she has not received a bill.

What Happens If Payment is Late and Not Paid

If the bill remains unpaid and outstanding more than thirty (30) days after its issue date, it will continue to accrue interest and other charges and fees for which you will be responsible. Your driver’s license and/or vehicle registration will also be submitted to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles for non-renewal action.
