BUDGET DEADLINES AND SCHEDULES

Preparation of the annual budget will be scheduled in stages throughout the school year with attention to certain deadlines established by law and charter.

Within 170 days after the annual organization of the city government, the Mayor shall submit to the city council the annual budget, which shall be a statement of the amounts, recommended by him, for proposed expenditures of the city for the next fiscal year.

The final date for the submission of the budget to the mayor will be arranged cooperatively with the school committee and the Mayor. The Mayor has the authority to impose a date as early as December 31.

In reaching its decision on the budget amount that it will submit to the mayor, the school committee will also observe the statutory requirement of holding a public hearing on the proposed budget. Such hearing shall be held not less than seven calendar days after the notice for this hearing has been published in a local newspaper.
