SCHOOL NURSE SERVICES
School
health services are a central component of the educational system. The school nurses provide care, education, and
monitoring as required by the Department of Education, The Department of Public
Health, and the Center for Disease Control.
School nurses provide:
- Preventive health teaching
- Updated Student Health
Records
- Data collection and reporting
- Medication and treatments
ordered by MD’s
- Documentation of medications,
treatments, injuries or changes in health status
- Medication delegation for
field trips
- Assessment for
self-medicating students
- Physical and emotional
supports
- Education of staff and
students in Health
- Development of health
education components, including:
dental hygiene, coping skills, nutritional health, mental health,
classroom instruction, Red Cross first aid and CPR.
- Documentation of compliance
with DOE, DPH, EPA, DMR, DMH, and CDC standards.
