STUDENT SUSPENSION/EXPULSION

Students may be suspended from attendance at school on authority of the building principal, assistant principal or the superintendent. In the judgement of the administration, expulsions shall be imposed only for instances of serious misbehavior that warrants a severe punishment.

When a student is suspended or expelled from school, he or she shall have recourse to an appeals procedure that the superintendent and his or her staff shall develop and administer. The availability of this appeals mechanism shall be made known to students and parents.

A letter shall be sent by the school administrator to the parents of a suspended or expelled student, informing them of the reasons for the suspension or expulsion.

Reinstatement of suspended students shall be according to the requirements and within time limits set by the principal.
